Please note that there is a new set of rules this season.  The referees association has set rules for all adult leagues.  Below you will find the new rules as well as the original rules for GOV.

Official Rule Set for Goddess of Victory Basketball

1. Official High School Rules; with modifications as noted, will be used.

2. Every player on a team must wear the same “legal” League-issued team uniforms with clearly identifiable numbers. Team members without uniforms will be designated bench personnel only for the game. 

3. Games will be played by registered team members only.  Prior to the start of the game, score sheets must be filled out with each player’s full name and number and submitted to the official score keeper for that game. 

4. League conveners will provide trained, official scorer and a timer for each game.

5. For safety reasons and in accordance with the rules, no jewelry, rings, bracelets, necklaces, hats, metal or hard plastic hair pieces etc. are to be worn during games.

6. Defaults:  A team with less than 5 players at the designated game time may opt to forfeit immediately.  If a team chooses to wait, the clock will be started and unless they have 5 players ready to play before 10 minutes have expired on the game clock they will lose by default. If the 5^th player arrives and is ready to play prior to the 10 minutes the team will be charged with a technical foul. The game will then begin with only the time remaining on the clock available to play in the first half. Referees will not officiate defaulted or forfeited matches

7. Player/Bench Decorum:  Appropriate discussion with officials shall be directed through team captains.  Disrespectful communication with an official will result in a technical foul to players or bench personnel or a flagrant technical foul if warranted. Two such technical fouls (or single flagrant technical foul) will result in ejection from the game and that team member will promptly leave the gym.  Ejected team members will also miss the next league game.  Officials will note ejections under these conditions on the score sheet.  Further league sanctions will be at the discretion of the convener.

8. Should the interaction between a player or team and the officials be of a more serious nature or be repeated, the GBABO may impose further penalty with or without further discussion or the agreement of the league.

9. Time:                       2 x 25 minute halves

Run time – exception:  last 2 minutes of the game are stop time

3 minute halftime

30 second shot clock last 2 minutes of the game

    10.   Foul Shots:            On a shot attempt – 1 shot for 2 points

                                                On a made basket – 1 shot for 1 point

                                                Fouled on a 3 point shot – 1 shot for 2 points and then 1 shot for 1 point

 
    11.   Fouls:                      5 individual fouls - foul out of the game

                                                7 team fouls – 1 shot for 2 points

                                                10 team fouls – 1 shot for 2 points

    12.   Time-outs:              2 time-outs per game

                                                Ball at half court after time-out

    13.   Overtime:              4 minutes stop time with 30 second shot clock

                                                1 time-out per team

                                                Maximum 2 overtime periods

February 14, 2007 - Boat Tournament!  For the first time in its history, there will be a womens' division in the Guelph Boat Tournament.  It is held the weekend of April 20th.  Find out all the details at www.sphawk.com

October 1, 2006 - Come on out and scrimmage!!!!  On Tuesday, October 3rd from 8:00 - 10:00 we will be holding an open scrimmage.  If you have not yet registered, this is the perfect opportunity for you to do so.  New players are welcome!!  Please spread the news.  Hope to see you there!

August 29, 2006 - Welcome Back!!!  I am pleased to announce that GOV will be running this season!  Games will be held once again on Tuesday nights at St James.  I have mailed registration forms to those of you who played last season, so keep an eye out for those.  If you have moved, send me an e-mail so I can send one to your new address.  If you are a new player, e-mail me and I can give you all the information you need.  I hope to see you all very soon!

April 18, 2006 - CONGRATULATIONS to the BLUE team who finished first in the inaugural season of Goddess of Victory Basketball.  The GOLD team overcame many obstacles such as injuries and loss of players to finish a close second.  Check out the photo gallery for team pictures.  Thank-you to all who made this year a great success, I hope to see you all on the court again next season!

April 13, 2006 - Championship night April 18!!  Come out and see who will be named game M.V.P.s, and which team will capture the first ever Goddess crown!

March 8, 2006 - 3-ON-3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT!! - Okay ladies, get your teams together!  I will be hosting a 3-on-3 tournament that is guaranteed to be competitive and fun!!  WHEN:  JUNE 3rd, 2006 WHERE:  John F. Ross high school WHAT:  There will be 2 divisions for both male and female: high school and adult HOW MUCH:  Entry fee is $150.00 per team WHAT ELSE:  Cash or cheques made out to G.O.V. Basketball Pass on the information to your friends, and get your teams in!

January 20, 2006 - Hi players, the following is an advertisement for a tournament if anyone is interested.  I have never been involved in the tournament myself, but it sounds like a lot of fun!

2006 Women’s Masters Basketball Tournament Oakville, Ontario April 28-29, 2006   The 28th Annual Ontario Women’s Masters Basketball Tournament will be held in Oakville on Friday April 28 and Saturday April 29, 2006. There will be four (4) divisions with up to eight (8) teams in each division. The divisions are: 30 and over – All players must be 30 or over as of April 28, 2006 35 and over – One (1) player may be between 30 and 35. All the rest must be 35 or over as of April 28, 2006 40 and over – Two (2) players may be between 35 and 40. All the rest must be 40 or over as of April 28, 2006 45 and over – Two (2) players may be between 40 and 45. All the rest must be 45 or over as of April 28, 2006. All teams are guaranteed 3 games. All teams will play one game on Friday (possibly late Friday afternoon or Friday evening). Play will continue all day Saturday. Teams are asked to wear numbered jerseys. A banquet will be held on Saturday evening April 29th at Otello’s Banquet Hall. We will be raising funds for Wellspring of Halton-Peel (www.wellspring.ca), a support centre for people with cancer and their loved ones, in memory of former Canadian National team member Carol Hamilton Goodale. The Tournament Fee is $650 per team and covers all games, referees, scorers and timers, Friday night hospitality room snacks, giveaways at the banquet, and banquet for up to10 people. Add $30.00/person for each additional person. November 4/2005 - We are happy to report that the league is underway!  We have 5 teams with 8 or 9 players to a team.  The games so far have been competitive, and everyone is having a lot of fun.  Please check out the complete schedule and standings to date.

September 11/2005 -  PLAYERS NEEDED!!  We are looking for players to complete the roster for a 4th team.  Registration is still open, so if you are interested, or know someone who might be, please don't hesitate to contact me or mail your form in to secure a spot.

September 6/2005 -  Just a reminder that the deadline for registration is fast approaching.  If you are still interested in playing, but have not yet registered, please print off a form and send it in this week.  If you need more time, or have any questions, please e-mail me.  Also, if you would rather submit a team rather than register as an individual, please feel free to do so; either collect all money and forms from your team members and send them in together, or submit your forms individually, and have one person from the team record all players' names on the back of their form.  Please check the website in a few weeks for teams and schedules.  Thank-you for your interest in Goddess basketball, I hope to see you soon!
